The former president of the Railway Investigation Authority (CIAF), Iñaki Barrón, stated on Monday that the railway has "much to envy in safety compared to air travel, especially in training". The statement was made during an article published by El País, in its section dedicated to transport and safety.

Barrón, who also serves as a representative regarding the accident that occurred in Urda del Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, emphasized that professionals within the rail sector require more rigorous and up-to-date training. In his remarks, he pointed out that inadequate training constitutes one of the main risk factors within Spain's railway system.

Call for improvements in professional training

According to El País, Barrón stressed that working conditions and operational protocols must be evaluated with greater rigor to ensure passenger and personnel safety. Additionally, he requested competent authorities conduct an urgent audit of the national railway system, aiming to identify structural and procedural vulnerabilities.
