Democrat Randy Villegas has won the race for California's 22nd congressional district after defeating six-term incumbent Republican Congressman David Valadao.
The newly redistricted district was considered a true toss-up before being redrawn under Proposition 50, which aims to increase voter turnout and reduce gerrymandering. The new boundaries reflect many of the constituents' roots from Central Valley immigrants with working class or agricultural ties.
