Singer Rick, of the duo Rick & Renner, dies at 59 in helicopter crash in Santa Catarina
Rick Sollo, the voice behind hits like “Ela é Demais” and “Nos Bares da Cidade,” died at age 59 in the crash of a Bell 430 (registration PP-MGR) in the Santa Catarina mountains. The Fire Department confirmed there were no survivors.
Singer Rick, of the duo Rick & Renner, died at age 59 in the crash of the helicopter in which he was traveling in the mountains of Santa Catarina. The Military Fire Department confirmed on Tuesday (22) the location of the wreckage of the Bell 430 (registration PP-MGR) and the deaths of the five people on board. There were no survivors.
Geraldo Antônio de Carvalho was born on December 5, 1966, in Porto Nacional (Tocantins)—though some biographies cite Monte do Carmo. He moved to Brasília at age six and began singing in bars while still a child. In the 1980s, he formed the duo with Renner that skyrocketed to fame in the following decade with hits such as “Ela é Demais,” “Nos Bares da Cidade,” “Só Pensando em Você,” and “Sem Direção.” He was a father of six. His wife, Geralda Helena (Ge Helena), was traveling from Orlando to Brazil while the search was still underway. Renner was not on the flight; the day before, he had asked for prayers and “good news.” Traveling with Rick were businessman Bruno Avelar, videographer Paulo Soares, the pilot, and the co-pilot. The aircraft departed from Porto Belo bound for São Joaquim and lost contact on Monday afternoon (the 21st) amidst a storm. The wreckage was located around noon on Tuesday by the *Arcanjo 03* aircraft, following a search lasting approximately 24 hours that involved 40 firefighters, dogs, and thermal drones in the area between Vacas Gordas and Morro Agudo. The bodies have been taken to the medical examiner's office for identification. Cenipa is responsible for the accident investigation.
The cause of the crash has not yet been announced. However, the outcome has been confirmed by the agency that conducted the rescue operation: Rick died in the accident at the age of 59, in the mountain range separating the coast from São Joaquim.
